Trans-Topic Thursdays! Sexual Orientation vs. Gender Identity!

Somehow, in this day and age, of endless resources and technology, for one reason or another, confusion on this subject still seems to exist for some portion of the population.

I felt especially with it being Pride Month that it was the perfect time for such a topic!

More often then not in the transgender community you will often hear people discuss how many (not all but some!) still seem to think a correlation between sexual orientation and gender identity are inherently linked somehow.

This should go without saying but this is not the case at all!

I personally feel (as I’m sure many trans-people do as well) that this topic will often arise when “coming out” and/or disclosing your transgender status to others. This primarily seems to be the case especially with people you previously knew before beginning to transition. One of the first few questions you will often receive typically include…

So, Does that mean you like guys or girls?

(Or something along these lines…)

Sure, I can understand how for many this is a simple logical followup question in such a scenario. However, it really shouldn’t be relative at all…

Someone’s gender identity has absolutely nothing to do with the vast amount of different sexual preferences that exist. Sexual attraction is a broad spectrum which so many seem to feel the need to put into such rigid categories.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to explain that the term “transgender” is an umbrella term to describe anyone who does not identify with traditional “gender binaries.” I, for example, am technically a “transsexual” meaning that I solely identify as being a woman and have sought medical care to assist me with this.

A transgender person can be straight, gay, lesbian, bi, asexual, etc…

Are Cis (non-transgender) individuals faced with the same kind of assumptions for their genders?

I mean, maybe in some cases but more often than not, this is not the case!

Maybe, it even should be more prevalent in a lot of ways!

A person’s gender whether they be Cis or Trans should have absolutely no reflection on their potential particular sexual orientation.

I know, for me personally (anyone who may have happened to already read my post that included my “Coming Out Story” has previously seen) that my own sexual orientation was something I have always struggled with almost my entire life!

I remember a very vivid situation sitting around with a few friends as a teenager telling them that I really thought I might be asexual because I simply never felt a strong attraction for either gender. I’ve come to realize and accept at this point in my life that this was most likely because I didn’t feel comfortable being with anyone as I used to be.

I still in a lot of ways struggle with this even to this day. I really don’t date or anything for the most part or ever really even think of “sexual things” most of the time.

(It’s actually an interesting perspective to be in a world surrounded by a society that is so obsessed with sex when you could really care less about it!)

Upon further self reflection I have since mainly settled on the fact that I simply just don’t typically find someone attractive unless I share a connection with them first. The term used to describe this, that has come to light in more recent years, is apparently called “Demi-Sexual.”

I’m not really the type that necessarily feels the need to put labels on things but this is the “group” I fit in with the most primarily.

I, also, in some ways, identify as being “Pan-Sexual” which essentially means you don’t limit your attractions solely based on various gender identities.

Like I said, I’m not one that really feels the need to put labels on everything but I certainly understand the need that many feel to do so!

In a lot of ways, I think a decent majority of people would be happier not allowing things to be so “set in stone” when it comes to the various levels of attraction and/or gender identity!

Both of these, as briefly mentioned previously in this post, are on a huge ever growing spectrum. I’m sure a ton of people would potentially be a lot happier or even more open if our society didn’t feel the need for things to be solely one way or another with various things.

I guess that seems like as a good a place as any to wrap up this particular topic.

I hope for some this may have been, in anyway, mildly educational or interesting!

Happy Pride Month Everyone!

Don’t let anyone ever make you feel like you are wrong for simply being who you are!

(As long as nobody is getting hurt!)

(Unless maybe your into that and it’s consensual…)

Thank you so much for Reading!

Till, next time!

I Swear I’m Naturally Nocturnal! Apparently, Not as Uncommon as One May Think!

Some of you may or may not have noticed but I’m almost 100% positive that the majority of my posts so far have primarily been made in the middle of the night!

(Currently, beginning this one at just a little after 4 in the morning!)

Morning People vs. Night Owls!

These are two of the primary examples you will often hear some proclaim when discussing their various sleep patterns!

Obviously, a good majority of the population will not necessarily fall so rigidly into either of these two categories.

Research over recent years has, however, indicated that our internal clocks which indicate are differing sleep patterns are innate for the most part and are influenced by our genes!

It also suggests that these particular rhythms for each individual’s sleep habits are not something you can ever really change! In fact, it may actually be harmful to your health to attempt to differ from them!

In some cases certain people are even diagnosed with a condition called Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder (DSPD) which is the most extreme form of “nocturnal” behavior which may come with various other symptoms as well.

I recall once reading another study in which a group of individuals were monitored during a sleep study in which the participants were isolated in rooms without any windows, other forms of natural light, or ways to interpret the passage of time. I remember the scientists being very surprised that even some in these conditions truly did exhibit nocturnal behavior even without other influences over the period of the study.

I’ve read countless personal stories of people dealing with this throughout their entire lives as well. For some it is an endless struggle constantly present in their daily lives while others have simply found ways of life and/or careers that can cater to this.

Personally, a good majority of the various jobs I’ve held throughout my own life have allowed me this comfort. I think I’ve really only worked one major job in my life that ever required me to wake up early. All the others began usually no later than 2pm. Anytime I am ever forced to keep “normal hours” I am always constantly tired!

I’ve primarily been this way since my teens which is usually when this type of behavior will typically manifest. Sure, most teens do tend to stay up later but seldom does it follow well into their adult lives. I remember high school practically being a “second bedroom” to me because I just literally could not keep my eyes open most of the time.

Especially, more so when you are young this type of behavior can often be associated with being “lazy” which I always hated. People with nocturnal tendencies typically don’t get their full blown energy burst and motivation until well into the evening. For me, I’d say it’s primarily around midnight when I really start to peak and am like..

“LET’S GET SOME STUFF DONE!”

This clearly comes with varying amounts of different challenges. It makes it very difficult, even almost impossible some days, to accomplish simple everyday normal tasks. Many businesses and organizations keeping in some cases set 9-5 hours of operation. I remember reading a fellow “nocturnal-er” joking once about how we should all just make our own little town somewhere and everything could just be open at night! Ha ha!

Usually, anytime I ever have to do anything that involves me to be up early I just end up staying up the entire night. Typically, going through the whole day without sleeping again until the following night.

(You really do start to lose it a pinch once you start pushing past 48 hours for the record!)

Having dealt with this almost my whole life it’s become fairly normal to me for the most part. Just kind of is what it is I suppose? I’ve almost come to like it in some ways. Peaceful and such?

Interesting side note!

My one sister has joked with me since we were younger that I am a “Vampire,” ha ha!

So, I do kind of hate the sun?

Really, all bright lights in general for that matter…

I have sensitive eyes! Leave me alone!

Sadly, if any of you folks like me may suffer from a similar “ailment” it looks like that’s never going to change!

At least, until maybe we get old and gray!

So, better get used to it!

As always, Thank you so much for Reading!

Media Mondays! Anime! Something I genuinely feel everyone should give a fair chance!

I feel for those who may have little experience and/or exposure to anime may have the wrong idea of, honestly, one of my most favorite pastimes!

Anime tends to catch a bad rap in some ways carrying with it various negative connotations for some.

It’s weird, perverted, over the top, made for children, etc…

Sure, some shows do tend to deal with some if not all of these.

However, in my opinion, most simply do not at all!

As far as I’m concerned the only reason I could possibly think of for someone not enjoying anime is if they simply don’t care for any types of animated works in general.

Which can be very understandable, don’t get me wrong!

(Really, though….what’s wrong with you…?)

(Totally kidding! Ha ha!)

Anime to me is so much more than just your average television program or movie!

It truly is ART in number of different ways!

The art itself is primarily what will draw me to initially try a new potential show for the most part.

(Granted, this is not something you can always solely base your opinions on for a particular show. Sometimes a wonky or experimental art style can be amazing! Especially if it is somehow tied into the premise of the show itself.)

The art styles in anime vary so drastically from traditional, modern, or just straight up unique one of kind works!

Next, has got to be the music!

O my the MUSIC!

Anyone who has even remotely followed me so far should know that music above all others is probably my biggest passion of them all!

Anime brings music into a program in ways that I feel far surpass things you will typically find in more “western based” media.

From the opening and closing scenes, to the songs used during various parts of the show itself.

They are usually nothing short of phenomenal!

Whether they be more Asian inspired pieces or western based productions.

Incredible, amazingly catchy and unique songs that are more often then not matched up perfectly to the animation and will, most likely, be stuck in your head far longer than you may care for!

Some anime’s central themes will even on occasion revolve solely around music as the basis for the entire show and storyline.

(One of my absolute favorite genres if you couldn’t guess!)

This leads right into my next point which is the stories themselves. A key point in what I was trying to stress at the beginning of this post.

Honestly, to say you don’t like anime is practically almost saying you hate media in all it’s forms!

If there is a particular genre you enjoy whether it be popular, more unknown, or maybe something you didn’t even know could exist and stands alone!

Trust me! You can find it in an anime!

You like horror?

I could introduce you to shows that will leave you on the edge of your seat!

Maybe you prefer a good comedy?

I bet some will make you laugh in ways you never have before!

Romance?

It’s probably easier to find an anime that has romantic themes in some way than it is not to!

I’ll stop there, I’m sure you get the point!

The last thing I’d like to address is that anime and/or animation in general is for children?

Maybe, if you want to limit yourself to that kind of thinking!

In all the never ending genres in the anime world I can almost assure you that at least more than half are not something children should witness for varying levels of mature content!

Shows that tend to be more well known or in the forefront of “mainstream” anime usually tend to be typically more of the “shounen” variety. Literally translated as a genre that is primarily aimed to be attractive or appealing to young boys.

This is not to say that others regardless of your age or gender can not enjoy these shows. My point is simply that I feel this does play a more crucial role in why anime may carry with it all the themes stated above.

Genres are not always based on age for reference but a good majority will include one of the various titles attached to it describing it’s key demographic.

I suppose that’s as good a place as any to wrap things up.

I’m fairly positive I managed to cover most of what I intended to express in this post.

My only goal being to potentially open your mind to trying out something new!

For all you know this could very well turn into being one of your new favorite hobbies!

Anime is continually growing worldwide in popularity and not at all as “niche” as it once was and for good reason!

I always would enjoy the occasional anime in my teens and thoroughly enjoyed them! I did, however, struggle to find anyone to share this interest with.

I really only fully embraced my “anime addiction” maybe, give or take, around 5 years ago?

I have since watched roughly over 200+ different series in my lifetime…

This is nothing compared to some “pros” who may even make a living off anime on YouTube or other social media but I mean it sure is still a decent amount!

Anyways, I hope this, at the very least, gave some of you more understanding and/or appreciation of the wonderful world of anime!

I can honestly say it’s primarily the only thing I tend to watch mostly anymore when I’m actually able to have the patience to sit still and focus on one thing for an extended period of time.

(Western based shows nowadays just tend to be so unoriginal or even repetitive in a sense, in my opinion, for the most part. I find anime to be a very refreshing break from this.)

If you have already previously and/or still do watch anime, let me know some of your favorite shows in the comments!

I would love to hear them!

Always looking to connect with fellow anime “nerds.”

Thank you so much reading!

See You Space Cowboy…

(Anyone who gets that reference is awesome, by the way!)

(Come on! It has to be one of the most popular anime!)

Milestone! I am both Completely Shocked and Utterly Humbled!

I know for most bloggers this would not be that monumental of a feat to say the least.

Nonetheless, I could not be more honored and taken aback!

I began blogging only roughly a little over two weeks ago?

Somehow, in this short amount of time I have managed to gain…

Words seriously can not even begin to express how much this means to me!

Any of you that have even once read, liked, commented, and/or took anything from a piece of my writing…

You are so amazing and I love you!

I truly could not be more sincere in this statement!

When I first began, I didn’t think anyone would even be remotely interested in anything I had to say.

(Or be able to look past my complete lack of writing ability…)

(Mentioned this from day one people! Ha ha!)

Let alone be able to accomplish something like this in such a short amount of time!

Like I said…

I know this is honestly nothing to some but it means the world to me!

It truly does!

I have already stated this previously in my post detailing how much I love blogging and the community. This just reinforces how much that love continues to grow and how, more than ever, I have absolutely no intentions on stopping anytime soon!

If anything?

I’m probably beginning to become just a “touch” obsessed?

I’ve already started to keep a list of specific posts and topics I plan to cover in the future.

To say the least…?

This list is, slowly but surely, growing out of control!

I have not even gone out of my way to make it so, either.

Ideas just keep constantly flooding my brain to the point I probably already have enough to last me for months to come!

It might be about the time to upgrade to a more premium layout very soon?

We will see! Ha ha!

I’m sure no one will care about this post for the most part but I felt the need to write it regardless.

(I, most likely, won’t make another one until I hit like 500 or something…)

(Bold goal but you never know!)

Thank you all again so much for the support!

Stay on the look out for all my up-and-coming content!

You all are the best!
